Bug with game (kindof spolier.)

Alright i got the game a while ago, and beat it. It was fun, and i decided recently to play through it again.
At the end of chapter two after beating the ice temple, you have to go back to oswald and give him all the stuff for repairing the ship. Im pretty sure i beat the ice temple, since i killed all the priestesses and explored everywhere. so i went back to oswald with all the things i needed for the mending spell and he wont take them and repair the ship, he just keeps asking me for the stuff while he stays behind. i dont even get a dialogue option for giving him the ingredients.
Is this a bug or did i forget to do something to trigger his accepting the stuff i got.
Any ideas or help would be mucho appreciated.

Don't you have to free nathaniel too..

Not necessarily, but if you do then you can give him the components instead of oswald.
