Aw, crud (Rome, total war problem)

I just got Rome: Total War (yea I know, it's been out for a while, I'm always slow in getting new stuff). During the tutorial prologue, as you enter the first battle, the game exits back to windows with no notice, error message, or anything. Any ideas on what caused this?

Don't know anything about the game since I don't have it, but basic things first..

Is there a patch, have you got it if there is..

What do the offcail forums say?

Do you meet the games min spec?

Do you have enough free HDD space after the install (some games need upto 2GB after the install)
