man I cant wait to see what comes out of this

The IMAGEON 2300 media processor from ATI has been chosen by LG Electronics to power the industry's first hardware enabled 3D-gaming phone - its new SV360. Shipping later this year, the SV360 will aim to bring advanced 3D gaming to mobile phones offering a console-like gaming experience and ergonomics.

Paul Dal Santo, Vice President and General Manager, Handheld Products Group, ATI Technologies said ATI is working with many wireless industry leaders to cultivate the mobile 3D ecosystem, bringing together content creators, hardware manufacturers and carriers, to help make mobile 3D gaming a reality.

The SV360, powered by IMAGEON 2300, enables compelling gaming on a higher resolution (320x240) landscape LCD display with crisp images rendered at over 10,000 triangles per frame - a visual quality threshold not previously attainable on mobile phones. Games and applications are able to fully benefit from the IMAGEON's hardware 3D acceleration through the OpenGL ES 1.0 mobile gaming API. The IMAGEON 2300's impressive rendering capabilities and low-power consumption, combined with the SV360's unique features such as the 3D user interface, gyroscopic controller and stereo speakers, deliver, for the first time, the high-quality, immersive gaming experience that consumers have been demanding for many years on a mobile phone.

ATIs IMAGEON range is already present in products such as Tapwave's Zodiac handheld and phones from Motorola and Fujitsu.
I am a huge ATI fan and know that this can only be good news

Fantastic. Now I wonder if they are going to come up with some sort of gamers phonepad so I can play Doom 3 properly on it with my stupid oversized fingers.

Yeah lol, so there's no need to play games in computers anymore. People can play in their handphones.

the Gizmondo isn't a phone, its just like a PSP or a nintendo DS, and yes Nvidia have put chips in phones, but one of them are capable of anything the new ATI ones will, they were used to support colour screens.

That link that i posted if refering to phones as far as i can tell. the first sentence is ... "Nvidia has rolled out its latest mobile phone graphics chip, an upgraded version of the currently available GoForce 3D 4500"

Yes but I was refering to your comment on the Gizmondo, and as i said, the power of the GoForce 3D 4500 is nothing in comparison to what ATI says they have.

sorry the gizmondo was a bad example i will find another. but i think that the Nvida one supported better resolutions and it will encode images on the fly but the ATI chip will be faster and better for gaming.

Yeah, Nvidia has the best photo rendering and imaging power and always has (there was never any competition though ) but hopefully ATI can take mobile gaming to the next level...
