I Just have to say one thing...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH HH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Right with that out of the way, ive been revising for an I.T exam that is coming up by doing some of the tasks my school has sent me. Doing ok but there is one thign on the Excel side of it that I cant understand and ive been tryign at it for aroudn an hour and have still come no closer. "If the total charge is more than £150, it must calculate and display the total charge minus 10% discount. If not, it must display "N/A". The written expression is: IF TOTAL CHARGE > 150 THEN LESS 10% DISCOUNT = TOTAL CHARGE - (10% * TOTAL CHARGE) ELSE "N/A"" I wouldnt be annoyed if it wasnt for the fact we havent done any work on Excel in the lessons, and ive got this far and got stuck... the function you want to put in the cell is:
=Iff(A1 > 150, .9 * A1, "N/A") This assumes that cell A1 holds the value for total charge. Replace with the actual cell containing the value. For more info on excel functions click the button that kinda looks like f*()...

One too many "F"s in that If, but nice logic...
'Course, I'd do it a little different, which might not make your professor happy. I'd use three cells for the whole thing: subtotal, discount, and total. Subtotal is your current total. Discount is Night Stalker's formula, except put the .9 back to .1. Total is =if(discount="N/A",subtotal,(subtotal-discount)) Why? Because in the real world, all three numbers have importance to me. In a test, however, the instructor may want only what the instructor wants. I've been bitten by that before... sometimes, it pays more to know less. Oh... I always use names in my spreadsheets as well, just because they're easier to track down when something goes rwogn...  Good luck! *B* Minister, etc. (ret.) |
