Yes but who saids we are having an archery contest?
A thief can beat your archer easily wearing the same armour with a Tansheron's Shotbow+3. Backstab non-stop! Or my fighter with reflection shield! shoot at yourself.....lol!!!! |

In order to use your backstab, you'd have to see the Archer first. And it's the Archer that can dispel invisibility. After you stabbed the Archer will prove to be the better fighter. Also, once your fighter has the reflection shield, you'd leave your other partymembers open to an attack. A few arrows later and it's six against one. Well lets see everyone in my party including my mages have AC-7 or better.
I have a monk...enough said....114% magical resistance 2 professional mages with 5 stoneskin spells each. My paladin and cleric's constant truesight will make your archer a sitting duck against spells. "a few arrows" just how many is that? P.S. I don't have a fighter! I have a monk who is immune to normal weapons and with 5 sttacks per round. I have an Assassin dual classed to mage that fires poisoned phantom arrows+3 My other mage is a fighter dualed to a Conjurer and can cast time stop then whack everyone with her blackrazor and Jhor sword. |

Oh man, do I love this discussion. Another perk of the ranger (archer that is) is that you can hit your apponent so hard and so fast (with for example boots of speed) they take at least twice as long to get to you because of the constant pounding and almost never (a bit exaggerated, but only a bit) get a change to inniciate their own attack rounds, they just keep getting hit, hit, hit. Top it of with the called shots and stealth attacks, no one can even touch you!

In fact I hate the ranger class soooooooooooooo much that I turned Minsc into a
Cleric.... I do not mean to offend antone as I am a role player not power player, but I just recon rangers are not powerful enough! |

Rangers and Druids are the ultimate role-playing classes, I think. I love the protector of the woodlands feeling you get when playing them.
I have two questions about the Archer though: 1. Are the effects of called shot cumulative as you rise in level? Or does it switch to a completely new bonus each time you get a new ability? 2. I'm not trying to call into question the Archer's utility, but how is an Archer able to hit creatures that require +4 or +5 weapons? Are there any arrows that are considered that? I hope so, because I'd like to play an Archer, but I want to be able to hit higher level creatures. |

*sigh*
Man..another one of *these* post? "Myrangerisbetterthenyourparty.nomygodpartyisbetter thenyourrpingparty.nomyrpingpartyhasrangersbardsan ddruids..." Come on people you arent even talking in DND terms!! DND is about working together to become the post powerful, not who is beter. DND is like sports. Take footall for exsample. If you dont have linemen the Quaterback will be in major trouble. If you dont have a QB,then the whole team wont score much. If you dont have Running Back/ Tight end/ Wide Recvier then you wont score at all hardly. Its the same in DND. If you dont have fighters it will be much harder. If you dont have mages then whos ganna cast Fireball and wipe out all those nasty looking monsters out all at once? If you dont have a theif whos ganna pick lock that lock that leads to the Dragon that holds the artifact to save the world? Now you can say "But solo lvl 23 god mage can do anything!" Right, but its not near as much fun. Its about team work!! |

Well, I also would like to know the answer to the first question.
About the second: it is possible for the archer to hit the +4 creatures if, as with every class and every weapon, there are +4 weapons available which he can use. Unfortunately in bg2 I don't think there any +3/+4 arrows. There are +3 bows, of which one of them has a +5 thaco bonus. |
