Anime is a glimse into a culture of another nation.
And as for some comments made here, It looks dubed because it is!
And the drawings.... They range from more realistic than Cartoons to being on par with them depending on how it aimed at.
Not to mention most daytime tv anime is edited to fit with our viewing laws.

But if you are after a greater understaning of it, watch shows like evangolion (?), Marcoss (robotech), Guvyer, la blue girl (Appently this is henti who knew?) So Adventer Duo instead, Blue sub six... and many more.

On a lesser not if you don't like stop watching it, but don't ruin it for others.

According to one of my friends, this show can be listed as hentai... You sure about recommending that one?

Uh.. I like cartoons, but really don't care for Anime at all!
Give me a good Disney animated feature or cartoon any day!
I suppose Japanese people find Disney cartoons weird and not that great. It's their culture to make the characters have big eyes although in manga they eyes seem to be more...human The uncut Japanese versions of DB/Z/GT are alot better. They have better animation, better scenes and better action. The American version that everyone has come to know isn't as good cause they have revamped the scences to make them less violent. The episodes are very unrealistic for example: a character punches another character extremely hard in the face and there is no blood at all. Just a scrape! In the Japanese versions the scenes are more involving and they don't stand around just "looking" at eachother..I see many peoples point about the bad animation and how they stand around and just look at eachother but that has been explained. The American version revamps it COMPLETELY.

That's my two-cents

Im really not bothered about anime or cartoons. since I dont watch either... besides, if you dont like it dont watch it. seems simple enough to *me*. The only cartoon I've watched recently... (several months back) would have to be 'Pinky and the Brain'. some of that was hilarous. some of it wasnt. ah well.

Cant really say for others why they like Anime, but to me. I have to say that its because of the "the only rule is their is no rule" thing which seems to exist in some shows - At least compared to other cartoons from the western part of the world.

Dont get me wrong I have seen some quite horrible shows, which have been labelled anime. That doesnt mean that their isnt a story in all anime shows.

The good shows, which I have seen so far, have already been listed.

Trigun, ghost in the shell, Aika, Angel sanctuary. Their is actually a story in those shows.

EDIT: LOL! neb, somethingawfuls guide to anime. Although a good deal of the things he mention are present in other cartoons and movies as well.

LOL, no kidding! I was going to say that after watching Speed Racer when I was a kid, they all look alike anyway.

Does anyone know if Speed Racer is the grandaddy of anime?
Hey Moni! I remember that one to! "Go Speed Racer.. Go Speed Racer.. " LOL Now there's a blast from the past!
I always laughed at the way the dialog seemed totally unrelated to the characters, kind of disjointed and not even trying to synchronize with mouth movements! And the voice actors all sounded alike too! I remember the really exaggerated ones because I'd SWEAR the same actors are doing Pokemon and Dragonball Z and such things now- just sounds the same.

I happen to LOVE anime but it really depends on the style and who's doing it.
