Okay answer these questions quickly without thinking, preferrably when you're tired. Answer QUICKLY!
No thinking time allowed! Imagine you are running in a race. You overtake the person in 2nd place. Which position are you in now? | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Did you answer first? Hmm I always thought that if you overtake the person in second place, you will then be in second place..... Next question. Answer this one even more quickly than the one before. No thinking time remember! You are running in another race. You overtake the person in last position. Which position are you in now? | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I hope you didn't say second to last. If you did, please explain to me how you would go about overtaking the person in last position when that would have to be you. 3. question. this one involves a very difficult mathematical calculation . You have to solve this in your head. Calculators, computers and paper and pencil are DISALLOWED! And be quick! Take first of all, 1000. Add 40. Now add 1000 again. Now 30. Again add 1000 to the total. Now 20. And 1000 once more. Finally, 10. What's the total? | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Did you get 5000? Shame on you, the answer is 4100. Check again. Decimal arithmatic can confuse the simply-structured mind. Don't feel down if you got them wrong! Life goes on.... Ok now be honest...who fell for them? Only one of them?

I managed the last one easily, but I must admit that I fell for the two first ones, only because I was told to "Think fast" though.

quote: Tsk excuses, excuses Heh the last one can be tricky cos sometimes your brain adds an extra zero to the tens column when adding up and you can come up with 5000 by accident if you do it quickly. These are better asked in person cos then the other person can't see them written down and is more likely to cock up

Just to be nit-picky ...
I think the answer to question 3 should be 3040 !!! Take first of all, 1000. Add 40. Now add 1000 again. Now 30. Again add 1000 to the total. Now 20. And 1000 once more. Finally, 10 Lines 3,5,6, and 7 have no operational statement. Assuming that they mean "add" is is just that - an assumtion !! They could be "subtract", "multiply" or anything. Note: Line 2 could also be considered to be invalid. At this point we have not (added) 1000, we (started) at 1000 and (added) 40 !! Pangur |

I had no problem at all with the first two, but the third one got me (never was all that good at math, I came up quickly in my head 5,000).
