(d20 20 faced dice)
with Thaco the lower is better, Thac0 The chance to hit a Armor Class of Zero

I am a elite solgier in a war :If I have a thaco of 5 and the kight infront has an armor class of zero I need 5 or more on a d20 to hit him.

I am a poor farmer fending of kolbolts: I have a thaco of 18 with my pitchfork and that Kobolt infront has an ac of 7. If I roll 18, 19 ,20 (critical) I can hit an ac of 0 (or less that 0 if 20 is rolled). since the ac of the Kobolt is 7 I only need 11 or more on a d20 to hit him.

I am a citywatch guard fighting Atremis (I am dead!!!): My thaco is 13 and Atremist Ac is -10. If I roll a 13 I can hit an ac of 0 but Atremist ac is -10 so I get a penalty I can only hit him with a roll of 20(critical). suffice to say the city will have one less guard on it's payroll

saving throws are as follow:
(those I remeber)
spell:
death/wands:
Breath:
Paralyse:

etc etc...

I have Breath:12
and a dragon breath fire at me:I roll my d20 Save againts Breath for half damage

I have to roll 12 or more and I only take half dammage from that attack if I roll 12 or less I get full dammage

I have paralyse: 6
And a priest of Cyric casts hold person on me: I roll my d20 or neg. If I roll 6 or more I won't be paralysed If I roll 6 or less they I am paralysed!!!
