HELP!!! MY FIRST PC VIRUS IS IN MY E-MAIL!!!

An attached file from a JP Donavan tried to open itself and the items involved are entitled>>>NEW_NAPSTER_SITE.pif and a txt. file with 0.00 bytes.

How do I remove it? just delete it from the e-mail
I have not opened the attachments???

I believe that all you have to do is delete the email.

Larry - be calm!!! Just make sure you have reasonably competent anti-virus software, run it and let it munch the nasties

Btw, I am just trying out AVG - it's free and it seems to be pretty good at detecting and clearing nasty stuff.

r you could try pc-cillin and scan... calm down man! it usually takes time to ruin your pc, which gives you a little room... so try loking for a decent anti-virus if you do not feel safe just deleting the email!

Delete the E-Mail and empty your local trash folder. Then scan with an AV program.

If it's a PIF file and a TXT file, you have nothing to worry about...those are DOS files and cannot possibly carry viruses.

Just delete them and forget about it. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Heres a little advice for future referance:

NEVER

Open any Emails with attachments that your not expecting. Anyone with any sense these days (no offence if u didnt know this and dont do it) sends you an email beforehand detailing exactly what is in the one with attachments. Also,

NEVER

Open any emails that are either forwards or from someone u dont know as these are the most likely to contain viruses. Also, if you think you have a virus on your computer, 1st run Your AntiVirus Programs, and then (if u got i tfrom the net) Clear out the directory C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files.

Crisis averted...after deleting the e-mail..I ran a search for all pif files. You were right, Sazy...only MS Dos programs came up. I deleted the thread, then cleared the trash. It tried to force itself open, and that is what bugged me. I had never had a file be so jumpy as that.
