I've tried everything in the configuration...the game is still choppy as hell especially during a battle, BG I was never choppy, i dont understand why BG II has to act up; i dont have any 3-d graphics activated or any other special gameplay options on.

BG2 has more graphics and special effects than BG1,that's why. What's your system(Ram,Videocard, etc.)?

any programs running in the backround also causes slow chopyness
try to disable all uneccissary programs that are automatically loaded when you start up your pc. these programs really chew up necisaary ram. hope this may help?? ------------------ Walk lightly my friend. |

566 mhz, 64 mb....somebody really dropped the ball with BG II if players have to sacrifice gameplay options for the sake of a smoother game...what good are graphics if they handicap the flow of the game.

I'd say to make sure that all of your background programs running in Windows (if that's what you're running) are shut down and get some more RAM. I've got 128MB RAM and it's choppy for me at times. I just saw an add yesterday for 64MB of RAM for $25 USD. Might be a cheap fix...:questionmark:

I play BGII with 64Mb RAM and a PII 350 processor - never had any major problems. Throntar is right though, RAM is dirt cheap at the moment - I bought 256Mb on Saturday for £60 (which is cheap in Britain - practically all goods are more expensive than in the US as far as I know.)
If you still have probs when you have no other programs running in the background, try the following in this order until your game runs smoothly(in BGII config and graphics/sound settings): 3D options (although I think you said these were off already) Critical hit screen shake - this causes jumpy screen problems for some, and turning off this solved every graphics problem I had Turn off background noises such as footsteps - these eat up resources Turn off large background animations If you are still having problems, turn off small background animations. The game is a lot less resource hungry if you turn off a couple of the above - you probably won't have to turn them all off though. ------------------ Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so. Stop moaning I am running on a PI. 166 Mhz procesor with 32 Meg of RAM. I got 1 or 2 Sound and Graphics on. Its a little slow so count your self lucky. The game shouldnt even run on my comp but it does, I still find it enjoyable. I even have 1 graphics thing on that I shouldnt. Magic Effects.

If you've changed any settings in the Gameplay, the Graphics or the Sound Options; try setting them back to the original settings. Make volume, tint and contrast changes via your hardware. It makes a BIG difference.
