A possibility, but IWD2 is set 25 (?) years after the events of the original. Of course like Keraptisdm, I don't know how BG ends in ToB, but I can't see any reason why there shouldn't be something along similar lines.
Thanks go to Arledrian however, as the only one to point out the obvious: reuse of the IE. That is most certainly one of the elements Bioware want to move away from. They don't wish to spend their time tinkering with an engine that has reached its "evolutionary" dead-end. Shame on them I say, even if I do understand their point.

trust me to want the two tthings that are already implemented in the next game
exscuse me for that, i haven't played bg2 yet, nor ToSc. hence i didn't know it seems a shame there will be no more baldurs gat elike we know it. i get kind of sick of everything being 3D, and wished that game manufacturers wouldn't always go that way. but i guess they will any way if they make any more. if they even do. i'll have to check out those tools you talked about. sounds good. though i ought to finish bg1 before i go trying to mess with things. |

After you beat BG2 and the expansions, can you export the characters to any other games?

'Fraid not Byrd. Out of all of the IE games, the BG1->BG2 conversion is the only one I know of. You can't transfer IWD characters from 1 to 2, and PST never had a sequel.

At least it´s said in BG2 loading screens that you can import your char to Neverwinter Nights. I haven´t played NWN yet, so does anyone know about this?

You definitely CANNOT take your BG2 characters into NWN. It was originally designed so you could, but the designers quickly saw the error of being able to start a new game at Level 40, with all your stats in the 20s, with all this incredibly powerful equipment, etc.
The lowdown is that, technically, you can import your character into Neverwinter Nights.....but all your gear and Special Abilities are stripped from you, you have to reroll your stats, and you're Level 1. So, essentially, all you keep is your name.
