Would anyone like to share their "I kicked Malavon's Butt" stories with me because I'm getting no where. I'd also be interested in hearing about what level your characters were at when you did it, (if you still remember.) Any and all help is appriciated.

Thanks,
Vixen

Urm... ...

Well... ...

My memory is hazy, but the one thing I remember about Malavon was that he was crazy and illogical. I took advantage of his... madness. I will describe my first encounter( Core Difficulty), since it was without foreknowledge, and yet, still successful.

I encountered him when my party members were ranging from level 8-9. I talked with the blind slaves and only used one member to scout the building( my Paladin to be exact). When the Malavon clone saw my Paladin, he engaged in a talk, and my Paladin agreed to drop all his equipment in exchange for Malavon's mercy on the blind slaves.

Remember, my first time meeting him, so I did not know how much of a bastard he was.

The clone laughs at my Paladin's 'stupidity' and proceeds to kill the slaves. I quickly paused the game, went to my inventory screen and re-equiped my Paladin. Cheesy? Maybe, but hey, I will just assume that my Paladin had quick fingers.

Since the clone attack the slaves, the slaves become hostile to the clone, the Iron Golems, and the Umber Hulks. I pulled back my Paladin back to the entry point and lured the minions out. I killed the Umber Hulks and the Iron Golems with little difficulty, because they were distracted by the slaves.

The clone... was a joke. As you may know, the building interior is divided into several rooms that contain several slaves each. The clone warped into the room where my party was, and cast his spells at the slaves in the adjacent room... My Fighter( Archer) had a field day pelting him with Acid Arrows( the acid damage penetrates his Stoneskin and ignores his Magic Resistance). Magic Missiles and my tanks got rid of the Mirror Images.

When the clone died, the same thing happened with the real deal. My Archer interrupted most of his spells( got to love the rapid-fire Apali Bow) with Acid Arrows.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

It's Malavon's rage that keeps toasting my weaker characters, and I want to make it through with no casualties.

I'm starting to think this is an impossible task, but what can I say? I'm stubborn.

If anyone else would like to put in their two cents I'd love to listen.

Thanks again,
Vixen

I have a Cheesy tactic -

Have your cleric (I assume you have one) cast sanctuary - walk forward and engage the clone in conversation - this will cause the battle to begin - but the golems and umber hulks won't attack because your cleric is protected - then start by finishing off these minions with missile fire (the Iron golem can be hurt with arrows of piercing (+4 to hit - can be found in the watchtower)).

When the two area-of-effect spells (Iron golem + malavorns corrosive fog) have run their course go forward and kill the clone.

Then the real Malavorn will show up - dont't chase him around when he uses Dimension door - just wait for him to come to you and kill him

If you don't want to use the cheesy method (sanctuary) - you'll just have to have your stongest (and best protected) character move forward and hold off the golems and hulks.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately I don't have a cleric. I've been able to get past the iron golems and umber ulks without too much difficulty, but when I try and walk back to that room off to the side (Malavon's bedroom?) that's where he toasts me. He sends out all sort of elementals and then does that Malavon's Rage about five times and everyone is toast.
I have to find some acid arrows (hopefully I haven't already used all that are available) since I just read that those will penetrate. Everything else I've tried won't get through his shield. I just get "weapon ineffective" messages. *sigh*

Does the above strategy stop the golems from casting acid fog?

You need to blast him with high level spells, like any real wizard would do

BURN!!!!

actually, I dont remember him being any threat. A good melee fighter can wack him off with dispel... I forgot, it's been a long time since I played

also, you can casts clouds in his room ^^ let him smoke the pipe.
