Today (January 11, 2006) marks the 4th year since the web site started running. While it's not been a smooth ride all the way, it continues to bring you, the Wiz8 fans, all the news on Wizardry 8 related topics I can find or others past on to me. You will find news of gameplay mod releases, utilities to download, my very own Wiz8SpellAbility and Wiz8CombatStats spreadsheets, plus lots of details about Wiz8 spells, dungeons and other things. As well, if you can't find what you're looking for, there's even links to other Wiz8 web sites.

My thanks to all the people who took the time to send a comment or e-mail (even the negative ones, at least I know you care enough to take the time to write).

What the future holds for this enduring and endearing chapter of the Wizardry story is anyone's guess, but it has been a fun ride so far!

Wow. I used to go there when I played Wizardy 8. I'm glad to see it's still active and that you're keeping up with the modding community.

Under the "Spell Facts" section in your site, there is a topic "Off-line: How is spell power / success rate worked out?", will this topic be online again ?

I really want to know how does character level/current class/skill affects the success rate, thank you.

Unfortunately, no-one has been able to discover the correct formula for calculating this (there have been many attempts, but all have failed under testing, especially with profession-changed characters). This topic was created in preparation for when someone did, but now with Wiz8 being over 4 years old and still no-one has been successful, I am doubtful anyone will.

It seems to me that with the use of a character editor, alot of this could be worked out to at least give people some guidelines. We do have some idea of the roles that school skill versus character level play (eg. the 25 point bonus to school for the four specialists means they can cast at a higher power level than a bishop at the same character level, even with all realm skills maxed). We also have some idea of how class-changed characters work into this equation, though it can be quite complicated depending on the choice of the class change, and some discussion of this issue appeared recently on this forum in the following thread:

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...;f=15;t=004463

I'm sure it would take quite a bit of work yet for an actual formula to be made available, but again some initial guidelines might be helpful for visitors to Wolfie's site, and perhaps someone who's a bit more savvy with maths could break this down in more precise terms.

Congratulations and adulations to Wolfie. Also to Flamestryke and the others who have put so much effort into adding to this game's accesibility. Come to think of it, the developer's need kudos for making the best RPG I have run into in 15 years.
