Ok, this might sound like a stupid question, but is there ever demand for any monster pic for DC?
I have been doing a few pics recently and some may look really cool in DC if I shrunk them down...
Well, just wondering

There is absolutely a need for monster pics- "You enter the dark cavern, your gaze transfixed on the pile of gold coins and jewels. It's not till you feel a blast of steam on your face that you notice the Red Dragon standing above the treasure!" Add one pic of a red dragon and bam! You're set up for a great situation. Well, you know... there is (I would take a guess and say that most ppl haven't yet thought much over this). I don't have any that I need for me yet (that is a little ahead of where I'm at still), and I might try to do my own.... we'll see. I happen to be more of the story and less of the art person, IMHO.

If you remember my rant over sprites, then the answer to your question is a definate "yes". You prolly know this already; but DC allows you to put a picture of what enemy you are going into combat with before opening the combat screen. As Tarlanon and Manikus said B4, the art selection is low and there are like no monster sprites and small pics.

Tarlanon!!! What say you??? Is this the beginning of the next art contest???

SilentThief
PS, to summarize ALL THAT above, yes! fit the pics to the small pic (heck, even the big pics, too) window.

I think it would be great. Here are the picture specs from the DC help :

The current image sizes for a 640x480 game engine screen are:

Wall (default format) - 576x368

Sprite - 528x211
icons - multiple of 48, two frames, in order of ready, attack. 1x1=96x48
title - 640x480
backdrop, small pic - 176x211
map, big pic - 608x288
combat cursor - 48x48
combat dying icon - 48x48
combat death animation - 96x48, two frames that are alternated rapidly when a creature dies

The current image sizes for a 800x600 game engine screen are:
(only diffs from 640x480 are listed)

Wall (default format) - 864x552
Sprite - 792x324
backdrop, small pic - 264x324

map, big pic - 772x436

The current image sizes for a 1024x768 game engine screen are:
(only diffs from 640x480 are listed)

Wall (default format) - 1152x736
Sprite - 1056x433
backdrop, small pic - 352x433
map, big pic - 996x628

I hope this helps you. If you haven't I might suggest you vist Dungeon Craft and download the game engine and editor, its free. It might help you to test out how they look in the game.

HiveTyrant - definitely make some monster combat icons! Your character icons looked so great.

I have tried shrinking down images to make icons but could never get them to look right. (I think the interior needs to be anti-aliased but the outside of the icons should be a sharp change to the transparent colour - this is beyond me).

The other tricky part about shrinking down larger pictures is creating both a "ready" and an "action" pose, but judging from your efforts with the PC icons, this is not a major problem for you.

I really hope you can get these looking good. I'm sure everyone looks forward to it.

Steve

PS I managed to post without being told I'm banned (which I'm not) - first time for about a year! I doubt I'll be able to keep it up, though.

Ok, another dumb question.
I assume that all monsters need to be the same size as the PC icons?? That being 48x48???

EDIT: Like this???

Yeah, I know, its not my Beholder, but this is just an example....

Oh, and Steve, where in Adelaide do you live? I used to go to boarding school in the Marion area....

You will love this- the icons do not need to be 48x48 per pose, just a multiple of 48- some examples are 48x96, 96x48, 96x96, etc. You get the idea. Giants can really be 5 times taller than the pc's.
