Hey everyone!
According to some of the posts that I have been reading a lot of people think Edwin is better than PC Mages. In everyone of the posts they mention his 18 INT and the number of spells that he has. I have been playing a mage since BG1 he is an Illiusionist (Illiusionsists where better in BG1 becuase Necromacy spells sucked. His stats are Str=11 Dex=17 Int=19 Wis=18 Con=17 Char=9 This is possible becuase of good rolls and the tomes that where available in BG1 to increase your stats. You combine that with all the sweet items for mages like Robe of Vecna, Ring of Wizardry, Acuity, Gaxx, and so on. also he has all the spells except Necromancy. So the only thing that would make him truly powerful would be the wilting spell. Anyway my point is why do people like Edwin better than Mage PC's. Although I am a little biased since I only ever play mages ever since my first D&D game in grade 4 followed by my addiction to Dragonlance books and of course Raistlin, Dalamar ect. Hmmm......mages.....power....the loose comfort of a robe.... Have a good day! ------------------ |

Necromancy has 3 great spells.
Level 5: Raise Dead. Level 7: Finger of Death. Level 8: Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting. Edwin has an 'unfair' advantage of having an amulet that grants him +2 to all spell levels. This amulet is not removable, and because of it, he gets a maximum of 8 spell slots for each spell level, except level 9 in which he gets 7 spell slots. Assuming he attains the maximum level of level 31. You, on the other hand can only have 6 spell slots, and 5 for level 9. A Mage's power is determined by the amount of spells he can cast. Edwin has a superior firepower unrivalled by any mage. Even a Sorcerer has trouble keeping up when you compared firepower. ------------------ If not a Sorcerer casting total oblivion, then a Paladin meting out justice. Otherwise, I think I will just be a bard and torture my enemies with, "My Heart Will Go On". Platinium Sorcerer of ALSB, Aerie Loving Sacred Band! She's MeowRrrr, and more! ------------------------- Baldur's Gate Item Mart |

Good point. I did not know about the amulet. Nobody ever mentioned that about him in the posts.
Thanks |

Oh, by the way, ever considered what Edwin would be like if you equipped him with the items you listed?

I remember I had him up to 29 level one spells in BG1. That was with 2 Rings of Wizadry (B4 patches or TotSC).

I guess there is no point in playing a PC mage at all then. Assuming that you want an evil or semi-evil party.
