One of my friend, a long time smoker just woke up one day and decided to quit. He threw all his cigarettes (damn, why didn't he give them to ME???) and stop smoking from that day onward. It has been nearly five years since he quit and he told me that he never had the urger to light another cigarette again.

Damn, I wish I could do that. But hey, I don't drink and I don't gamble, at least I am entitled for a tiny little vice too, eh?

F= 9/5 C - 32.
C= 5/9 F + 32.
Roughly.

I quit for two years - cold turkey. Now, I smoke when I drink, which is 4 or 5 nights a week. Usually 4-5 cigs a night, up to 10 on a weekend party night (when I drink more). Yep, I'm a smoker, but I will often go days without one. I feel I can still walk away if need be.

I started half a year ago, at age of 22 - STUPID!
I still can go a week without a cigarette if I need to, sometimes even just because I'm to lazy to buy some, still I am a smoker and it's getting worse.
I should have stopped by now, but I'm trying to lose weight and figure you can't do everything at once

does anybody know a site where the ACTUAL amount of nicotine/cigarette is listed for different brands?
I'm not talking about nicotine/inhaled smoke which is about 1mg,
but about actual content which should be about 10mg if I'm not mistaken.
Nicotine is the strongest herbal poison with a lethal dose of 50mg. As far as I remember (from my sisters med studies) 5 cigarettes or half a cigar dissolved in water can make up for a lethal dose (which of course depends on body weight and other circumstances)

A convict in jail once tried faking a heart-attack using thois technique.

I've quit smoking now for like 3 1/2 months, still nothing, nada..... I wonder how long I will last this time

I started to smoke 2 years ago at the age of 25. How stupid is that, Faceman? And I'm dangerously approaching ˝pack a day˝ limit.
For all those years my mother thought, that I will be better than my three older brothers, because they all smoke. In fact, one of them quitted 8 months ago, because his wife gave him an ultimatum, but every time we get together and his wife isn't near he asks us for a cigarette. The worst of us all, was my father who smoked two packs a day for the last twelve years.

I smoked, then I quit, then I started again, then I quit, then I started again. I generally go about two years between lapses and am currently "lapsing" like a chimney.

Still, it does give me something to make a New Year's resolution about

I don't think you'll have any luck finding the amount of any ingredients in cigarettes. There are about 300 additives that are used in them as well, including such favorites as formaldehyde and cyanide. In fact, if you leave a bucket of formaldehyde (like hospitals using formalin) open too long, you may face the requirement that you call the EPA and report a hazardous substance release to the environment (the air). However, there's way more formaldehyde in cigarette smoke.

There's this great commercial (made by a company formed as part of the tobacco settlement) over here where they have a contest. 4 shopping carts full of products, and the announcer wants contestants to find the one product that does not list the ingredients. It's a pack of cigs.

I was going to post a thread about a neat story I read but lost the link. This thread though seems like a good place to share it.

A scientist, inspired by Homer's actions in an episode of The Simpsons, has successfully created a new hybrid plant. He grafted a tomato and a tobacco plant together and calls the result tomacco, the name taken from Homer's creation in The Simpsons episode. The leaves of this plant have tested positive for nicotine, and the fruit is expected to contain a lethal dose. I thought that was weird at the time, but I see now that a lethal dose isn't all that large.

Lavindathar, if you don't mind my asking, what was the interest in the burning cig's temp?
