As topic, and I started a ranger...
Now I need some ideas for a party... I'm in the screen next to friendly arms in... and I already got imoen but decided to not let the necro and his friend to join my party.

Any other tips?

Notice: I haven't played through BG1 ever... just arrived at BGcity once before I got tired of it, so please, no spoilers.

Head to the friendly arm inn and look for some friends.

Khalid and Jaheira.

Go south to Beregost and ask around to see what quests you can get. I like to enter every house (even if I have to pick the lock) just incase there is a quest waiting inside. You don't really need to get any side quests done at this point in the game, but talk to everyone you can since many of them will give you quests that you can complete. Most quests will give you some experience points, so some of them can be useful for leveling up without risking your neck. Also, in Nashkell, head east to the carnival if you want and check out the area for a little fun.

edit: took some stuff out and replaced it with less spoiler-ish stuff.

bubbe, some general advice for you: In this game, pretty much all of your fights are going to be won through brute force, so make sure the majority of your team is Warriors of some sort: Fighters, Rangers, Paladins. You will also need (yes, need) a good Thief, or two mediocre Thieves, as well as a decent Priest, unless you want to spend lots of money on Healing Potions and Antidotes. As far as Priests go, Clerics are far better than Druids in BG1. If you're anything like me, you won't want a Mage of any sort until roughly halfway through the game, and even then you'll never need one. As a general rule, try to choose party members with high Dexterity--in this game, one hit can kill you, so you'd best not get hit. Also, try not to mix Good and Evil people in the same party: They tend not to like each other, and they could even try to kill one another, or you. Keep in mind that Evil characters will not like being thought of as heroes.

Most Important: Build a Tank. Jack one guy up with all the best defensive gear you can find, and keep pushing him in front of you wherever you go. Make sure that he's always the first person that the bad guys see, and make a habit of shoving him in their faces. Do this because you don't want the enemies to target any of your weaker characters, no you sure don't.

[EDIT] Thanks, Lord.

Aye, mostly brute force.

At the end of the game, a mage can be decent, not a god, but not too shabby either.

Oh, and don't make a mage main character in this game unless you're a masochist. (Game Over when main character dies)
