The original Baldur's Gate.

The later games ended up with better features and higher levels, but the first game brought D&D to life on my computer in a way I'd hoped for since I booted up my first 386 machine.

I loved them all, and am currently enjoying NWN, but nothing so far has been a drastic enough change to match my sheer joy when I started BG.

Prior to BG, it would be the SSI series of D&D games which was my first computer D&D experience.

I can't wait for the next technology jump like the one between SSI games and BG

Yeah Diablo 1 for sure. BG2 didn't compare to it at all. *hopes nobody starts another BG series vs. Diablo argument*

Even though I like BG better, and never really got hooked into Diablo, I had a friend who did - deep It's simply different strokes for different folks, right So, while Diablo may be short on story, so is BG2 on the sheer joy of getting that incredible bow, or hitting lvl 99. Either way, they're both great games.

I'd say either Baldur's Gate II or Deus Ex. I don't really know if Deus Ex is an rpg but it's classed as that in pc gamer magazine so I suppose it is.

Sure Deus Ex is an RPG, it is actually my favourite too. I was not perfect though, the experience point award was weird.

Edited: Diablo is a fast paced, fun game mainly in multiplayer. But it is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a Roleplaying Game.
