Greetings,
I bought Baldur's Gate II when it first hit the stores but I bogged down in Chapter 2 because of my inexperience with D&D and all the micro-management a large party entails. Though I loved the story, the game sat on my hard disk unplayed and was not reinstalled on my next upgrade. Recently I decided to try BGII again. I had no problem finishing all the Neverwinter Nights official campaigns, so I concluded that it was the large party micro-management that prevented me from continuing with BGII. Therefore in my present game my Paladin decided after escaping the starting dungeon that his two fellows were too interested in revenge - and not focused enough on rescue. Not only were their motives contrary to my Paladin's ideal, but they might actually ruin things at a crucial moment because of their anger. My Paladin regretfully discharged them. Fortunately he found someone of like mind and wonderfully complementary abilities just a few steps away in a circus tent ... This has worked very well for me. I'm in Chapter 6 (finally!). The party is now three, for my Paladin would never turn away the one rescued in Chapter 4. It's a good team and very easy for me to manage. I have decided that my character has Bhaalspawn powers that he uses without knowing. Powers of which even the gods are unaware - and they'd tremble if they knew. Most people wish, at times, that they could live their life (or a portion of it) over again and do it differently. My character has that power (Save and Reload). He doesn't know he has gone back to a previous point in time, but he does have a strong feeling about future events afterwards and invariably does things differently. To better result. The other Bhaalspawn power is also used unconciously by my character. At greatest need, when even turning back time won't work (I'm stuck), he can divine What Is and What May Be. That is, *I* can use this forum to get me through difficulties. For that last Bhaalspawn power I thank everyone, past and present, who have posted to this forum. You've done it with minimal spoilers so that someone like me can get help without ruining the game. Bravo to you and to the moderators who make sure it stays that way! Again, thank you! As the source of your divining powers, I say, "You're welcome, young Bhaalspawn."
I like your role-playish explanations for reloading, and for asking for hints online. I did not realize an internet connection was a benefit of Bhaal-dom! Now, are you going to add on such excuses as "I am mysteriously able to increase all my attributes {to 25}, and the best weapons/armor mysteriously appear in my inventory, using an ability known only in my dreams as 'Keeper d'Shadow'"? No, now that would be taking this Bhaal thing too far!
