Unhappy The damn spammers got me!!

I clicked on an email last week, which said 123greetings.org.
I didn't even think and just clicked on it, thinking bungleau had sent me a nice ecard.

Well, they got me. I'm up to 15 spam emails today. I'll call my provider tomorrow and change it. Be careful.

..13 more as of this morning...

Am I able to just create a new address myself, or do they (my provider) have to do that?

I get about 50 spam emails every day...Gmail puts them all in the spam folder and I don't even bother checking.

I'd check if you have an option to turn spam filtering on or not before looking for a new address. The hassle of changing it everywhere you've created an account using it could be quite annoying.

Is that something that would be in Thunderbird, or would it be through my provider?

Getting spam is more or less inevitable and not hard to deal with. Most email providers have their own spam filters, which usually work quite well.

If yours doesn't, Thunderbird has a spam filter functionality. You will have to train it by marking spam emails, but it should get quite good at recognizing spam in due time.

I have been marking them as junk, but there seems to be a lot of different ones coming in.

I have been forwarding all the emails to the webmaster as well, to block them.

Almost too much Jack Burton ITT, ALMOST!

Why not just make a new email address yourself?, I recommend Gmail. My Gmail account at one point received 20+ SPAMS a day, I dilligently marked each one as SPAM and pretty soon they all disappeared. Now maybe I get 2 SPAMS a YEAR on that account. Kudos to Gmail for kicking SPAMS ASS!!!

I also use Windows Mail on my Vista machine to check my ISP account. It pegs legit marketing emails as well as spam fairly well, but allows paypal phishing attempts with no resistence. I went with Zonealarm Pro and it struck dead those Paypal phishing emails.

Thunderbird has junk filtering, in Tools --> Account Settings. Over time, as you flag messages as junk, it learns from you and puts similar stuff in your junk folder automatically.
