Loumistro has beaten the crypt. Now he will be able to get to Ishad na to get another role.
LOu has all of his stone magic so now can work on something else.
As far as barbarian is concerned it really makes little difference in hitpoints if I start now or later, he still has to get past level 12 which is what the wizard is on now. I dont expect good hit points until after level 12. I dont think it makes any difference how many times a role has taken him to that level he will always have to pass that to get more hitpoints.
I would like to make him a paladin soon to get spirit magic but I will have to go through another role to get into the fighters or priests guild. I think maybe Samurai to get sun magic but I am worried about getting past certain salads near Ishad na.
Thanks Tator, I'll go looking for that jewelry when I get that quest. Hopefully I will have some lockpicking skills by then & can open the chests that I left.
Bungleau, I've just had a thought(& yes I think I did strain something). Are you trying to tell me that If I change to barbarian 1st that I will get extra hitpoints from level 1?

All right, let me try to explain this hit point thing again, this time with pictures.

Let's pick a level 12 wizard. He's got... 72 hit points. Now, let's change him into a barbarian.

Wizards average 6 hit points per level. Barbarians average 12. Those numbers may not be accurate, but work with me -- they'll illustrate the point.

New barbarian is level 1. Advances to level 2, and dice are rolled for HP. Comes up 24, which is less than 72 (current HP level). One additional HP.

Advances to level 3. Dice are rolled, total is 36. Less than 73 (new HP level), so plus one HP.

Level 4. Dice are 48. Less than 74 (nwew HP total), so +1.

Level 5. Dice are 60. Less than 75, so plus one HP.

Level 6. Dice are 72. Less than 76, so plus one HP.

Level 7. Dice are 84. More than 77, so plus 7 HP.

Level 8. Dice are 96. More than 84, so plus 12 HP.

Level 9. Dice are 92. Less than 96, so plus 1 HP.

Level 10. Dice are 84. Less than 97, plus 1 HP.

Level 11. Dice are 95. Less than 98, plus 1 HP.

Level 12. Dice are 144. More than 99, so plus 45 HP. Wowza!

Now, I'm probably skipping a few more mathematical steps in here, but that's basically what happens. So when you switch to Barbarian, you don't have to wait until level 13 (in this case) before you start picking up some barbarian-style HP. As happened here, it started at level 7.

So there is a benefit to switching to Barbarian early -- you get the extra HP while going through later classes. It means that you'll advance many more levels with just one extra HP, but that's because you got them earlier.

The same logic also explains why you will occasionally get a skill point when leveling up in a new class, but really get them again when you hit a brand-new level.

Bungleau,
I've just found a flaw in your logic. A wizard cannot become a barbarian directly, it 1st has to be a bard to get into the rogues guild. I know that you could take on a role quest then cancel it, but is that ethical? I think that might be a good question for a poll & I'll base my decision on the answers I get.
At the moment I am running around the snake temple on the bards quest. It is proving difficult because I get poisoned faster then I can find antidotes. Any ideas?

Well I intend to go through the ranger class and get my vine magic up high enough to get the cure poison spell before I even attempt the serpent temple. I'm going to venture into the asylum tonight, after I get offline, then I'll have to decide if I want to take the time to go through barbarian first, or just go straight to ranger. I will go to barbarian eventually.

On the Algamesh's amulet question, it's a side quest item. If you get the quest for it from Kerielle, she hangs out by the windmill on the way to Nymph Lake, she will trade you a potion for it. The potion she gives you can be used in the serpent temple to put the Naga to sleep and then sneak past her. If you do this, you can get the serpent priestess who's name I forget at the moment to offer you serpent nectar to drink. Accepting it will give you the snakeskin trait. If you don't care about getting the snakeskin trait, you can just keep the amulet and kill the Naga. Since the amulet will give you the same poison resistance as the snakeskin trait, it's just a matter of whether or not you really want to wear something else in your amulet slot.

No matter which way you do it, you will eventually have to go back and kill the Naga. I think that's a guild quest.

Queen Elyssssia gives you the potion for 'Snakeskin'...Kerielle's Elixer, isn't required. (I always forgot that I had it)

Algamesh's amulet.. ...AC Protection + 1...Protect Poison 50%...Cure Poison Spell, 4 charges.

IMHO....it's the best piece of jewerly, you get...early in the game.
Especially if your playing solo and/or No cheats...

A word of warning... ..if you use, all 4 charges...the amulet Will disappear.
Also...IIRC...there is no way to Recharge it, when it gets down to 1.

I've found it easier to stay poisoned & just use healing potions to top up my hitpoints. Sometimes I get double poisoned & start losing 3 hp at a time instead of 1 or 2, then I use a cure poison potion.
When I get a role change I will go back & open all the chests I left & get Algamesh's locket & keep it. It will be good to get some gold too, that is proving a big challenge at the moment, but once I can get merchant skill I will be able to do some fair dinkum trading. What is it that Bungleau called it 'reprobate' or something?

Arbitrage, friend Kev, arbitrage. "Reprobate" is what I often get called...

And arbitrage can start with as few as 200GP, IIRC, at the Bushi Dojo. About to start my solo warrior game, so my memory will get refreshed soon.

And Kev, I'll grant you that logic flaw. A Wizard can't become a barbarian directly, unless he or she has already joined the Warrior or Rogue Guild. And I'm not sure about the Rogue Guild, either; rusty memory.

Aside from that, the logic used for calculating hit points is the same. Move it to some other starting class that's more acceptible, and the same things happen. The barbarian gets more HP earlier, which you can take advantage of when you're a "weaker" class later.

The point is that I believe it's better to take advantage of the Barbarian's massive hitpoints earlier, rather than later, and that the only downside is that you might not be a barbarian by the time you go offering special gifts in the land of the Boogres.

Of course, the best thing about this game is that however you play it, you're right. So....

erm.........for ur information Bungleau, the rogue's guild does NOT ascend any1 to barbarian. only the warrior's guild does this is just for ur information although almost EVERYONE knows it already!!!!!
for me, i'd rather be a barbarian FIRST before ascending to any other roles. y ? coz if you happen to change to a warlock class, which gives a miserable amount of hp every time u level up, u will end up having to constantly keep him safe with rebirth or toughen spells......... so i'll go for the barbarian first to get the heaps of hitpoints before ascending to any OTHER classes.........
come on, let's give it up for LiOnHe@rT!!!!!
