The radio is reporting Puerto Rico leading the US "Dream Team" by 22 points at half time. They said they outscored the superstars by 28 to 7 in the 2nd quarter.
I also hear that the Saffies took our World Record in the 4 x 100 mens relay - that is making Phelps's goal of matching Spitz nigh on impossible (given that from the heats he doesn't look to be as good as Thorpey or Hogey in the 200m).

The "Dream Team" isn't such a dream time this year. Before the 2nd quarter they showed a list of players who declined to play at the olympics. Must have been at least 20 players on that list, all of them great athletes in their own right.
I really wonder what, besides family, would make a person consider declining the opportunity to play in the Olympics. So yeah, The US "Dream Team" is probably going to lose badly this time around.

It's not the dream team, they don't have Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan or any of those star atheletes. They're all young new talent, so whats surprising if they lose? Also I heard Phelps was beaten, was that right Davros? |

Sorry, didn't watch the last summer olympics. ^^;
And I really don't keep with basketball much so sorry for the uninformed comment. ^^; Sometimes it makes me think that a name change is in order as the current US team probably won't live up to the name "Dream Team".

Yes Gangrell - the Phelps tally stands at one Gold and one Bronze after the US came 3rd in the 4 x 100 freestyle relay. He has 6 events left but he needs to win them all. He is least likely to win the 200m freestyle and the 100 m Butterfly (think the US has a faster swinner).
I would never be happy with comparisons with the great Spitz if any of the Phelps medals were for swimming relay heats but not being good enough to make the final 4. I have no problem with the heat swimmers getting the medals, but if Phelps gets a gold in the medley relay but is not good enough to swim any of the major legs in the final then that is a crutch that Spitz did not have access to, nor one that he needed. As for the Dream Team - yeah - total bummer. They lost to Puerto Rico.
