That's really sad and creepy. People reaching out to other people, to kill themselves with.. The fact they are reaching out kinda makes me think they have not given up hope completely. Same for that guy that was interviewed, saying he was not sure when he was "ready." And I don't doubt for a minute there are people on those sites who have no intention of killing themselves, but like to egg others on to do so just for their own sick amusement.
Again, creepy and sad. [ 02-09-2005, 06:51 PM: Message edited by: ladyzekke ] |

I don't know, I've been in tremendously low times in my life concerning depression, I mean places even below rock bottom, but I never once thought about killing myself. Even when life feels like it's in the crapper, it's still something you only get to experience once and that's it, there is no second chance. I've talked a few people out of commiting suicide before, and they're quite happy from what I know today.
Considering it's the internet and there's more bad people out there on it than good, no matter what someone's 'good' intentions are when these sort of sites are made, there are going to be those who will egg people on because they're too stupid and don't care. They don't realize they're assisting someone in killing themselves, and are in part responsible. Quite sad that these sort of things exist. [ 02-09-2005, 07:10 PM: Message edited by: Gangrell ] |

It doesn't happen all that often, but when i'm down i have a beer.
Maybe i should visit these chatrooms sometime and teach the Japanese the soothing effect of a nice cold one. They're better off drunk than dead.

I can't say it surprises me that much. Lonely people gravitate to the internet.
And Japan has much less of an animus against suicide than Western nations. It was considered the final way for disgraced samurai to regain their honour, and it still has not lost some of those connotations. However, it is sad that otherwise healthy people are giving up on life so soon.

Obiirusan?
For johnny? biiru means beer, the O at the front makes it polite (the Japanese are very polite, even to something they are going to guzzle down very shortly ) and san means mister. Or perhaps Inshaniwaikiru... Drink to live? Alcohol is implied.

Sounds as creepy as that man in Germany who let himself be eaten by someone else.
