The answer to your first question is that they HEAR you. Yes there is a point in the "move silently" skill. You probably failed the roll and they hear you. Hehe, I dunno, try taking one step at a time while hidden in the shadows and seeing how close u can get to the mage before he casts True sight- that's if he casts it at all. I haven't actually tried this, could be interesting. About the backstab thing- yeah that is a bitch.

I too like the fights in inns....Remember that fight in BG1...I think it was at a bar in Beregosts...Foldeposts was it..you know the one where yo talk to a friendly party, then a nasty one comes in swinging their weight...and your new friends battle the mwith you I loved that....

Don't know if the tanner and the rune assasins are actually related to the twisted rune. It is one of the enigmas of the game. If you want to do the Twisted Rune battle: get a rouge stone and check out the houses in the southern end of the bridge district (past the tanner's shop). Be prepared to get your butt kicked .

I don't think they hear you comming, my fighter/thief got 125% move silently, and still they cast truesight as soon as I see them. Thad doesn't bother me though since I've got the cloak of nondetection

What about that fight with the Demon Knights in the Kuo-Toa City in the underdark? my ass got fried in my 1st encounter...AND there were five? six of the barstards too...
