I've been holding off installing HoW for later once I've finished IWD, but now I'm beginning to guess from other posts that there might be some advantages to installing HoW now already, is that so?

Yes, there are many advantages, more spells, better abilities (Druid), more Songs (Bard), greater shop inventories. You don't need to play HoW but if you have it is better to have it installed to take advantage of the above.

kartetse,

Absolutely, go for it: Install HoW! The majority of the benefits you get are the improvements to IWD before you even get to HoW areas. The expansion patches IWD, adds many new features (like selectable screen resolution, alt-key highlighting of treasure and other points of interest, more unique items, and HoF mode), rebalances the game (Bard and Druid become much more powerful and enjoyable to play), and, of course, gives you the extra adventuring area of the HoW areas.

after you install HoW, install TotLM, which is the final and complete patch to IWD/HoW. (No other patches are needed.)

What's a party,
without a song?
Bards ROCK!
Party on!!
