Ok, seems like I have killed everything in the Aurilite Temple now, except Nickeldemus, the ranger, and the guys trapped in the mirror. Any ideas on what to do with them? I thought sure I've looted everything in the place, but he still wants his gear.

IIRC the ranger's gear is in a treasure room near the mirror room - I think you need to open it with the lightning shooter in the middle. If you break/touch the mirrors in the mirror room, the people trapped inside will be freed - watch out, they are a fairly tough fight too.

Nathaniel's stuff is split between two treasure rooms. One you can reach from the picture with the phrase, "In Auril's Name". This room has the ring of the ram.
The other is the locked door in the mirror room. Open the secret door in the coffin room, and be sure the door of the mirror room is also open. Shoot the prism south. This unlocks the door. Nate's bag of holding is in here. If you break the mirror, all the trapped men come out and attack you. Their minds have been warped by being in the mirror. You don't have to fight them if you don't want to. Touching the other mirror gets yuo some stuff and bad luck. Whether it lasts seven years or not, I don't know ![]() |

You don't have to fight them, really? Is there a way to make them "sane" again, or did you just run away from them?
I remember getting some nice items off of them, but also that they were tough (I sent one guy in the room to break the mirror, and put a cloudkill and web in there before he did it to soften them up).

I cast an Animate Dead and a Summon Monster III, broke the mirror, and got my cleric the heck out of there while they fought with them. Then, as they trickled out the door, killed them one at a time. BTW, thanks, Nightowl, I had found the Bag of Holding and discarded it as useless. Found it again and it all went peachy.

The Inner Sanctum Mode of the Battlesquare becomes available to you after Orias uses it. You actually need it to kill her (completely), and after you do that you can use the same mode to clear out those guys in the mirror -- attack them while you're ethereal. This makes you invulnerable to their attacks, but you can still hit them normally. Watch out because they'll also try to go to the Battlesquares room and switch off the mode.

I like the ethereal idea, next time through I am going to try that for most of the level. I try to stay away from Animate Dead though, it's too powerful IMHO and just makes things too easy - but I have used it in a few spots if I am stuck.

Yeah, being ethereal and cleaning out the level that way is very easy. Just watch for some Aurilites with smarts who head for the battle room to pull the lever and turn it off. Some of the guys in the mirror will try that, too. And no, you are not required to fight them. Most games I just left them alone.
Glad you found Nate's bag again, Attalus. |

Well I mean once you break the mirror and they come out. Is there any way at that point to leave them be without running from them? Can they be made sane again?

Sorry, misunderstood the question. If you break the mirror, you have to fight them (or run away, but that's not a great option). There is no way to make them sane. You can ask Nik about that. He'll tell you all about it, and why you can't free them safely. I usually just leave them in the mirror.
