I have a 10th lvl Assasin, part of a 2 man group ....
And my standard tactic for fundraising when i have a thief in the group, ... is stealing.
Now my Assasin's base Pickpocket-score is 70 percent ...
Add 5 potions of thievery to that, and you get a 270 - score.

But my assasin isnt getting anything done :*(

I usually steal 10 potions of power , and then sell them, steal etc.
(they make for a good price)
But my 270-pickpocket assasin gets caught every time !!

I can t remember having this problem with Jan, he was about 270-300 when i used him to steal too, it seems odd to me .....

Should i just wait for more thieving-skills or is this not supposed to happen ??

Hi Daan,

In my experience bad luck pick-pocketing seems to accompany wearing armor. Try taking the armor off before picking pockets. Please post if that actually works; so far it's just my superstition, and I'd like to hear how well it holds up in other people's experiences.

It also depends where you steal from. Some people are easy (such as Gorch in the docks district) but other people are harder to cheat.

This is just a theory, but I have also noticed a trend dealing with reputation/stealing ability

In one of my games, my main is a thief with 145 in pick pocket.. and I played with it a little bit and find that when your rep is low, you can't steal well, whereas when I raise the rep, I steal 5/6 items that were over 5k in value without getting caught...

I cant say if rep has anything to do with a successful steal roll, but remember that when you get caught, not only do people go hostile, you Lose 2 rep points...

play with your rep a little bit and see if you notice a difference

well, havent tryed the rep. thing yet,
but the armor i did try allready, didnt do it for me.
(Though i am one of those people who allways takes the armor off
anywayz)

ah, stuff pickpocketing,
I'll just try with a nice rep. and some good charisma and appropiate tactics

* looks at salesperson with "that" look *
- you like what you see ??
X But ... you're a man, and i likewise ... my wife's a woman ...
- Exactly ! We have more in common than she'd ever have
X salesperson drops all and runs like a bunny

Reputation has nothing to do with it. My evil party's Swashbuckler cleaned out every shopkeeper. It felt good to achieve one million gold pieces without cheating.

I also have a solo Assassin, but she is Chaotic Neutral. She steals well too, so maybe you are having bad luck? Forget about stealing from Bernard, not worth the effort, and he is the hardest to steal from.
