You may have seen my earlier postings on the Icewind Dale I page, but here's my new story... I was borrowing Icewind Dale from a friend and decided to purchase my own copy. I ended up ordering the complete series off of Amazon. So, before the package gets in, I was wondering if some of you can give me an overview of how ID-1 and ID-2 differ. Main areas I'm interested in are character creation and game play tactics. Let me know if I need to be more specific.
I'm way excited to be getting HoW and ID-2!!! I'm also excited to be back into gaming mode after a 10 year hiatus! Cary

10 years!? Glad to see you restart gaming with the Icewind Dales!
Welcome then, Dancing Virginia! Differences? Well, IWD and HoW are D&D 2nd edition ruleset, meaning AC is best smallest, no ability increase through levels, only with items, skills are reserved for thiefing classes. Feats are only for proficiencies and THAC0(To Hit) is king when small, other details you'll soon realise, wich are irrelevant for now. IWD 2 is 3rd ed D&D, with bucketloads of additional classes, races and options. No limits to character design(elven necromancers are now a go...) and abilities may excel every four levels. Skills are much more richer and all classes use different skills, feats now encompas skill bonuses, combat abilities and special magic proficiency, among other things, and AC is better higher, and THAC0 is replaced by BAB(attack bonus) wich is also a positive value. Oh yea, in IWD max level was 14 and in IWD 2 it's 30. And no, you can't import characters from one game into the other. If you have any further questions just post them either in this thread, or open a specific one at your discretion. Happy gaming!

Also, Icewind Dale II is way harder. That's great.
