is it worth starting off a human monk build with just 1 level of cleric of bane for the later wisdom (and therefore armor class and stunning fist DC) +2 bonus?

edit: this is meant for party play.

Yes, if you have predetermined that your monk must be human. I'd still say that a DG pure monk is better, though. If you're willing to take an XP penalty, the DG monk with 1 level of dreadmaster would be even more effective.

Btw, a +2 to Wis only gives +1 to AC and stunning attacks (and later, quivering palm). To get a +2 to AC and the dc, you need +4 to Wis, which means HoF mode.

isn't it that soon as you take the the level of cleric you will not be able to take any levels of monk anymore?

This seems to be a common misperception. You can take any levels in any (lawful) class before taking levels as a monk, and its ok. If you have any monk levels, thats when the multiclassing restrictions kick in.

In a HOF game, I say yes, if not, no.

oh I knew that. What I meant is that you have the cleric level first. I misread your first post and thought you plan taking it...

...later.

Now I see that you meant that the bonus wisdom comes later. Sorry my mistake.
If you take the cleric level first everything should be ok.

Double post, ZFR.

It is a worthwhile build, but why not turn it around with a single monk level and many cleric levels? You will have less offensive power, but a much higher AC, especially with mage levels.
