Hi all!!
Was just thinking how RGP games, good ones that is, actually
relate to the real world. In my case when I first started playing part
of the "high" was coming across much needed "treasure" I mean what could
be nicer than finding a plus something sword or some magical armour, ect,
and I would rush around trying to open these treasure chests before
any other player could get to them. If someone else managed to get their
fingers on my oh so longed for "jewel" I would positively sulk, also
wanted to be the most fearless fighter and would charge recklessly
into battle, trying to kill more monsters than anybody else.

Now, however, many moons and suns later, I am a completely different person,
I will happily give away my plus 2 sword and pass on my most protective
armour to another weaker team-mate and will no longer rush to open all
those "boxes". I know, its not all altruistic, after all you need your
team-mates to survive, but I don't mind leaving the "glory" to someone
else whilst I go about healing people. I have discovered the quiet qualities
that are needed when playing as a team, now who said these pc games are
bad for you, I now know how wrong they are, after all, only last week I
gave away my last rolo!! mmmmmmmm' am still musing that one.

Thank you for sharing that.
I have not played Online yet, though I hope to get to, soon.
I would have done exactly like you described, and tried to beat my teammates to the treasure.
Now that you mention it, I realize that I would have just added to the stress, confusion, and unhappy teammembers by doing so. If I ever do get to play online, I will quitely sit back and let someone else come to me and say..."You know Larry, I already have a cool sword, and I think your character could do some great damage with this hot little item that I found just a few screens back. Would you like it?". That way, there is a great friendship and team spirit set into the game.

I think you state quite well, Vortessa, what happens to RPG players as they mature inside AND outside the game. Like all beginners the treasure and level gains were paramount. But as time passes it is the PLAY as well as the ADVENTURE that has become the most joy. One of my all time favorite PC that I developed in the Paper and Pencil version was a Gnome that was a multi-class fighter thief. His highest attibute was a dex 15 followed by a 13 strength. The rest of his numbers were in the 11 range with one 9 if I am not mistaking. He was a riot to play! And was was really cool was that due to his alignment (chaotic neutral) and profession as thief he would gain wealth but lose it also. Considering he ripped off a few temples he had a major price on his head. Now I constantly read on RPG boards how a 17 strength is soooo weak. Say what?! Anyway, nice post. You spoke much truth.

Yeah, I see what you guys mean. I haven't played online, but I do like to spread all my items as evenly as possible through my party so nobody is overly weak. But I do give some extra stuff to my guys up front.

Oh, and I've got your gnome beat on weakness, Albromor. My favorite character is a half-elf bard with 9 strength. I call him the brains of the outfit, while the others provide the muscle for his bight ideas.

Got to thinking again ---- never knew it would be good for the brain,
this RGP ---- but, if someone starts of as a "bad" player and then
becomes good, what makes a "good" player become bad.

I used to be a bad player to. Stealing all the treasure, and going off on my own to kill everything... on my own. I think a good player can't go bad. Unless he would just get so annoyed until he finally killed someone. I've known people who didn't know about lag. I've let them hit me, and many killed me by accident. (Just goes to show how bad lag can be sometimes.) They revive me, but there are nearly always people who rob my dead body. Those people usually pay the ultimate price of death. (As they always make the mistake of letting me put my stuff on.)
