What d&d edition rules does Icewind Dale use? What is your take on the game compared to the Baldurs gate games? Are they going to make more adventures? I have to say that these rpgs are far better than any others I've played.

IWD series uses 2nd AD&D rules. Just like BG II.

I like BG II much much more. (So do Plancsape:Torment)
I don`t like that much fighting. I am more for conversations and quests. IWD has just a little more hack and slash for my tast. A good game non the less.

I am a proud owner of:
  • BG
  • BG II
  • ToB (BG II expansion)
  • IWD
  • IWD II
  • NWN
  • Planscape:Torment (one of the best,if not the best RPG`s ever)
  • Morrowind
  • Dungeon Siege

These are all one of the best RPG`s ever. (I don˙t like NWN and Dungeon Siege too much tough)

But if you can get Planscape:Torment, get it. I promise you will not regret it.

I have torment and would have played it by now but when I try to install it it gives me an error. Install sheild (Error loading type library/DLL). I also own BGI , TOSC , BGII , TOB but I get the same message w/BGII&TOB.

I actually quite like IWD, I like how you can make your whole party (I know you can do that in the BG series but its not designed for that.) I think it is a great game, although there are differences in it compared to BG. You can get it very cheap nowadays though, so go for it

I have BG II, BG II (ToB), IWD, IWD II, and IWD HoW. They are all great games and I really like the character arbitration in IWD. But I prefer the complexity of BG II.

I recently started playing BG2 for the first time, and I'm enjoying it more than I did IWD. That's not to say it's better, just different. IWD is very focused and linear. From a replay standpoint, you know you're going to be fighting, so what can you create to meet the challenge? There are many ways to reach the same goal.

BG2 has been refreshing for me, because it's more of a true role-playing game. When taking on a quest, you don't know if you're helping the good guys or the bad guys. Then you meet someone who tells you something completely different. Who to believe? When you're party is full, and you meet a new player, do you kick out someone out and let the new person in? And the quests- so many, and you don't know which ones will forward the ultimate plot. It's all so open ended.

Both great games. It sounds like Torment will have to go on the list as well.

Xen,

Yes, thanks for the plug for Planetscape. I can't tell you how many times I have looked at the cover art and said, "Eh, I'll pass." What's that adage about judging a book... ? I'll probably pick it up the next time I see it on special. Thanks!
