Which combo do you think makes for the best fighter?
I have tried a Half-Orc/Kensai with great success.. is there any better ones that you know of?

thief to 9th level then dual classed to a fighter. you get to the same level with the fighter as you normal would but you get to hide in shadows and a backstab *4, which will kill a lot of baddies with one hit. it something like 120 on a critical hit. they have to be human.

Another benefit of the thief/fighter combo is that you can specialize which will TOTALLY make you hit more often.

You have to waste (and I mean waste) a strength item if you dual class from thief. Better to multiclass thief-fighter as an orc. You get maximum benefit out of having 19 constitution, whereas you have bad hp if you dual class as a thief. You also can let some wimpy character like Keldorn, Jaheria or Valygar use the strength item.

Don't get me wrong. I wasn't trying to imply that this character would totally dominate other characters. I just personally like dual classing humans. The reason that I got started with that was because (in old PnP days) humans were the only ones that had unlimited progression in their classes. That same Half-Orc that you are talking about today at 20th level could only go to like between 7th and 9th level. This wasn't considered too bad cause most characters retired by 13th level. I guess I just still haven't really caught up.

The 3rd edition goes it one better by allowing humans to multi-class now. As for Strength items, yes, that is true about humans, but I started my thief off in BGI and used a tome to raise his strength to 20. So I don't need any other items on him.

Tobbin,

I remember this as well, in fact thinking back a few years the first good computer role play games, (pools of radiance 1) and the rest of that series, which I plated on my Amiga, all still had the race level restictions in place.
