When I was at my friend's house (now he goes to college out of state), he showed me an RPG he was playing, but it appeared in a DOS-like window, and all the instructions, actions, everything was relayed in text. I played it a tad, and it was quite fun and very immersive, so I was wondering if anyone out there knows about these and can maybe direct me to a recomendable one?

thanks

The original "ZORK" was text based game. Do a search in Google and you can probably find it really easy in Google.

PS - did a search and got this address where I straight away started to play the game.

I used to think text-based RPG's rocked! Till I got hold of RPG's with visuals....

Still, what a great way to spend those rainy autumn days: playing text RPG's all night long, imagining what it would be like for an adventurer to roam the lands, searching for fame and fortune ......

Sounds great, doesn't it?

Yeah - I played it before - back in about 1980. I never had a computer then and could only get very limited access to the school one (we had one in the whole high school - man we were hip with the times back then . I never got anywhere near completing the game cos the sneak with the stilletto kept skewering me and pinching my treasure.

I just had a little play myself and managed to get underground for a look about .

The Mud Connector is an excellent site that links to a ton of text based RPGs.

Some MUDS (Multi User Dungeons) support a graphical interface. So there are buttons you can click that make your character go west (for instance). I think they go so far as to always show your items in a sub-pane, what monsters are in the room etc in a more organized way.

I'm sure the Mud Connector site has links to some.

I like roguelikes (YARNS have quite some) , they're sorta text-based (some of'em got versions with graphics though). Playing ToME the most nowadays.
