Hi littlemage,
Unfortunately, all things aside, Yorick is correct. There are no really good devastating bastard swords in BG2. Longs swords also lack, though there are some better. As far as swords go, 2HS rule. This may have been incorporated as a matter of character balance, since fighters rely on their sword ability. It may have been deemed an imbalance if mages could wield swords that are too powerful.
If you want to have a mage who can use powerful 2HS's, you may want to consider a Kensai fighter and dual class him as a mage. This character is very popular and deemed by many to be the best.

I chose basterd swords as the proficiency for my Fighter. I have only been able to find that basterd sword+1 form the cambion at irencius's dungeon. Are there any other basterd swords apart from +1 and sword of searing+3( which is in the underdark) as i need a +2 one for the vampires right now ,as i am working for the shadow theives.

Littlemage,
There was a Monty Python record some years ago that allegedly only contained a few words followed by laughter and then 45mins of silence.

The words were: "YOU HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF"

Well they are illegitimate bastards after all!

+1 +3 vs Shapeshifters is a reward for an early quest (won't spoil) but Shapeshifters aren't the threat they were in BG1. Blade of Searing is the best, the rest are +1 with resistances etc, or +2. There are so many good longswords/claymores/shortswords plus the celestial katana, how much sword dominance do you need?

Ninja-tos are ripped off in this game. Only the Scarlet Ninja-to is really good, and only the bare-handed specialist Monk can use that!

Look upon it as encourgement to diversify. (What is a little mage doing with such a big sword anyway?)

I only wanted to know where to get the swords not a lecture upon diversification of armaments.

The reason why such a small wizard needs such a big sword is so that he
can *** ** ** *** ******* and *** **** **** it

Careful Relic, he doesn't want "lectures" on broader game truths from us remember? Just locations.

So littlemage, the location of a great bastard sword is...... um.... or you could try........... er........

I chose to Dual weild long swords, and at the moment, (chapter 3) they seem to be pretty damn good...
I got the one from the City Gates, and from the Copper Coronet...
Dont tell me it gets no better than this?
