Hi people. I'm working on a tiefling (because i learn't how to give your chars wing + Tails) & i'd like to know how to get Valen and other NPC portraits onto player portraits, i've seen people do this on the internet.

Download LETO from the nwvault. It will allow this. Be careful of corrupting character files though.

I did it and it is not complicated at all. There is a post on the message board for it aswell.

Go to nwnvault and download Robious' nwnexplorer program. Extract the .exe and .dll files to you nwm folder. Run nwnexplorer and scroll down the left side until you find the xp2.bif folder (it's located under HotU Expansion data). click on that folder and look for the textures/TGA subheading. Open that file and sctoll down until you find the following set of files:

po_valen_h.tga
po_valen_l.tga
etc.

Select the tga file and then select Extract (or Extract as TGA) option. Repeat for each of the versions (h, l, m, s, t). That should get you the npc portrait files. Now put the tga files into your portrait folder and you will be able to select them when you create your next character.

I've done that successfully and been able to extract the NPC portraits for Queen Shao, the Seer, Valsharess, Valen, Nathyrra, Sharwyn (her new portrait), the Astral Deva and Big M himself. There are also new NPC portraits for Nesther, Tomi (i much prefer his old one) and a couple of the older NPC's. In addition, you can use this technique to extract the SoU NPC portraits as well.

There is NO need to use LETO to change your portrait picture as HotU will now allow you to customize your character (including portrait, character name etc.).

micah is that why my game crashes everytime I use a LETO - customized char in HotU and it works in SoU and NWN

I have no idea why It's crashing...it shouldn't. Best leave it alone then.

I wouldn't personally bother with NWexplorer as alot of the time since when you extract foreign portraits to the portrait folder they cannot be seen by others online - regardless of whether It's a portrait of Aribeth or Nasher etc. and plus using LETO is simply opening it up and choosing the port from a list or pasting the line "po_valen_h" into the portrait field. I think It's faster.

Since I never use LETO, I can't even begin to guess why your program crashes when you use a LETO customized character in HotU and not SoU or NWN. Sorry.

As for NWExplorer, I found it remarkably simple to use for extracting portraits. Spiritwarrior is right however - if everyone else who is online doesn't have the custom portrait you are using in their portrait folder, it won't show up on their machines. If you are playing with a group of friends, it's an easy problem to solve - just send them the tga files. [img]smile.gif[/img]

The only thing I can think of is that you don't have the right version of LETO, Sparhawk, for your current expansion.
