Since I have yet to get the game (b'day is in a month) I am wondering, what are henchmen in NWN? are they sort of like a party?

Well, they help you out, but they aren't under your control, they have very little social interaction, and you can only have one. Poor substitutes for NPCs if you ask me.

Yeah, the henchmen are not the greatest in terms of trying to control them. There are some scripts out there that change their behavior to be better, and let you control their inventory, never tried them but they sounded promising. But I still don't like that you can only take one along at any given time. And you have very little control over them the way the game comes out of the box.

PS - the closest you can get to a party is basically 4 members. You, 1 henchmen, 1 summoned creature, and 1 familiar.

Quit whining TM... we know ur too good 4 a party anyway
But seriously, you don't notice the lack too often, except when you have to go change Henchmen for their skills and then change back

I enjoy not having the control over my henchmen that I had in the Baldur's Gate series.
I'll admit, it was weird at first, but it is much more realistic. Playing with these TRUE NPCs feels alot like playing a multiplayer game. You KNOW the other players aren't doing the right thing(as far as you're concerned), but you have to work with them anyway. I did download one of the henchmen hacks though because I couldn't stand my henchman standing there shooting her ranged weapon at two or three orcs who were pounding away at her with their axes. Henchmen should be able to switch to melee weapons based on an enemy's proximity, and then switch back to ranged on their own. I hope Bioware will correct this with a future patch or expansion. The one I use is Pausanias's. It has lots of great features I don't use including inventory management. Check it out! [ 11-17-2002, 08:16 PM: Message edited by: Ronn_Bman ]

It will work for original modules that you download as long as the creator of the module didn't alter the NPCs himself. Some modules specifically mention they use this henchmen hack or some of the others.
