the archer's melee bonuses

i'm soloing an archer, she's level 9

i have two melee weapons

a quarterstaff +1
Azuredge (+3)

as displayed in the character screen, my THACO with the staff is 7 and with the axe in melee mode its 1

the extra + 2 of enchantment would give me THACO 5 which leaves me 4 short

i can't believe that the STR and DEX bonuses are being applied which leads me to think that the archer bonuses (they would be +4 by level 9 yes?) apply to both missile weapons and those melee weapons that can also be used as missile weapons even when they are being used as melee weapons

am i right?

Don't think so, have you any proficiency in staves? [img]tongue.gif[/img]

BTW, archer bonuses will be +3 at lvl 9, so it doesn't fit anyway.

Are you sure you are using the axe for melee? And what are your STR and DEX scores?

sorry - yes i've got 1* in axes and staves

my STR & DEX scores are a very embarassing powergamed-through-ToTSC 19 & 20 which would give me +3 melee and +4 missile yes? it can't be applying both surely?

i did check that i was melee-ing with the axe too

thanks for the archer confirmation (i wondered if it was +1 at 0XP then another +1 for each 3 levels . . .)

A simple way to check whether the bonuses apply to both modes is check the THAC0 for each mode.

Just a minor correction, but I believe the bonuses for STR: 19 are (+4,+7).

looks like i was getting over-excited - some more careful testing shows that the archer to hit bonuses only apply to the thrown version as you'd expect
