Dont know if this is the place to post it, but im new to this i have no idea what to do, if our characters are what ever we want them to be or we go through advancement systems. If someon could explain to me it would be great.

Welcome

To answer your question... I think most of the games going on do not want too-powerful characters, so if you wish to create one then you might not get that warm a reception If I'm not mistaken, most of these games will allow for the players to advance as they gain experience through the adventure.

If you wish to participate in any of the games, you can contact the GameMasters (see Larry's sticky post above on the list of active clans and RPGs) to see if you may join them. You should also ask the Game Master to let you know what you can or cannot do with your character as you go about generating it for the game.

There are some open threads around like the 2 I have created : Hazardous Times (fantasy-based) and It All Began In A Restaurant (modern day adventure). You are more than welcome to join us there (If you're interested, just drop me an email or PM so that I can provide you with an update on what has happened so far in these threads. You can then work your character in.)

Lastly, hope to see you hanging around this forum more often. It is always wonderful to have new members

WELCOME TO THE BOARD Apothic!!!

Most people dont care if you make up your own character, (I.E. If i were to join a game, A could make my character a lv5 ranger named bob.) And uh yeah, Its always good to have new faces upon this board! So there is No Advancement system. Just Join and have fun (Unless it says "Members of Bob's Clan only", or something to that effect)Hope to see you in some Rp's!

Hello and WELCOME Apothic! I'll be putting up a list of guidelines to follow soon, but mistral answered you quite well. Each game has it's own rule for types of characters allowed. Check the beginning of the thread for that information or private message the person who started the thread.

In most games, the characters are only based on (A)DND classes, and don't gain experience as such. They are more astory unfolding than characters developing better and better fighting abilities and facing greater and greater dangers.
For example, one of my characters is Legolas. He is an elf, and a ranger. BG2 influence made him into an archer as well. What this bascally means for most games is that his looks are that of an elf, and he has some elven traits. Legolas tries to do good and has a ranger's ties with nature. He prefers light armour and a bow over platemail and a sword.
But other than that, he is free to do whatever he likes, or rather, whatever he can. Because although the settings are usually fantasy, we try to keep the characters realistic. And, as a result, god-like characters are not what we want. Both because they can mess up the game master's plot due to their immense powers, and because there's hardly any fun to be gained, for most, by simply doing what you want with a single thought and ending the game right away.

Feel free to look around a bit at the different styles and adventures, and design your own character(s) whenever you feel like playing.

And I never even got to play it out!
I had a lot of good ideas that would constitute being fair and fun, but at the time, things got a little mixed up. I am looking forward to a rematch, though...and can assure everyone that it will be entertaining.

Well, youre right at some point. You could play it out if you wished to, but if I dont remember wrong, you just turned yourself into a stone and hided at the bottom of a pond instead of fighting.

see ya!
