HOW is an expansion to the IWD game and needs it to be installed in order to run. That being the case, let's start by asking the obvious question -- do you have IWD or have you uninstalled it?

If you do have IWD installed is the game behaving normally?

The BAD news: HoW is an expansion to IWD, as Cyril pointed out, so-o-o.... either you don't have IWD installed, because you thought HoW was a standalone game (and now you need to go buy IWD), OR your IWD install is messed up somehow and you need to do a re-install of IWD.

The GOOD news: The hardest part is done! HoW is very hard to get in comparison to IWD! IWD should be easy and cheap to acquire. Also, HoW does so much for IWD that, once you have it installed you'll think that HoW should be mandatory equipment: It makes the game interface so much better. I have not even started the HoW quests, and feel like I've gotten my money's worth from it because of how much better the IWD gameplay is with HoW installed. HoW allows you to play at a higher screen resolution, giving you a wider view of the battle scenes and virtually eliminating the screen jerk that occurs at lower resolutions when the games takes you to different characters that are off screen.
