The soon to be released SP2 is such a big security overhaul that they estimate problems with compatability of stuff like Norton AV, but do not fret! Those issues are being dealt with and if you don't freak out, things will be fine.

So saith this report, anyway.

The beta was awful, and MS even admitted that it had huge compatibility issues with many popular software titles.

Unfortunately, I think it will be up to the individual developer to make their software compatible with Microsoft's. Personally, I'm all for added security but at what cost?

When the SP2 Beta was fresh, MS had said they knew about compatibility issues, and basically it was too bad. I think I'm going to hold off on the SP2 download for a month or so, and let everyone else work out the bugs for me.

I'm going to follow the "Delayed INstall Plan" as well.

I will do what I always did, wait for the other to try it out, complain to M$ and let m$ come up with another patch for this update. This could months from now, but I am in no hurry to introduce a buggy update to mess up my PC.

I actually waited for a couple of month after the release of SP1 to try out WinXP, and I am happy that it is rather stable now. Sometimes being the first few hundred guy to get a new piece of software is just not worth the trouble.

I can't even get SP1 to work. Always get the error that some parts can't be installed and I've tried installing it for hours but it won't. I don't care, just use firefox (solves some stuff I'd wanted to upgrade to SP1 anyway) and getting my windows stuff to linux slowely

It seems even not installing this stuff and being more careful with viruses and spyware is less time-consuming than installing it.

Is this just for WinXP, or should we WinMe people be concerned?

I think it's about the windows SP2 and not IE? Looks like only XP from the article

Windows Me users should be concerned at all times.

Just for XP, although like Ronn said, you still need to be concerned because you're using Me.

The IE upgrade will probably follow shortly after the release of SP2 as a seperate download.

the best solution to stop wasting time with Ms's constant security holes and updates is to get a Mac! . Macs have no problem with virus's and security holes at all, and they dont have constant downloads to fix holes
