I go to a college, so thankfully things are ultra-modern.

My place of permanent residence as of now, however, seems to be a horrid mix of the 1950s and the 1990s.... The clashing beliefs of my father, my mother, and myself see to that.

Maine? Modern? ROFL... one of my friends claims he has an indoor toilet, but I've yet to see it. The other day I got to see a modern-day bathroom with all the supposed conveniences... but I don't call it convenient, I call it cheap - I pumped the handle of the sink twice and it snapped like a twig.

Ah, girl trouble. That explains a lot. Sounds like you've drawn a "helpless clinger" who isn't very secure. If you can't stand the thought of dealing with that on a permanent basis... RUN... AWAY... FAST... and find a relationship that's based on a partnership.

Alternately, you can show/encourage your girlfriend to take more responsibility and be more of her own person. Hopefully that will reduce her seeming dependence on you and guide the relationship into the area you want it to go. At the very least, you need to have a serious talk and clear the air a little.

Really? I guess you guys are more advanced down there then.

I hope things look up for you on the girl front soon, man. I know how hard it is - can't live with them, can't live without them.

Well, she's not so much a clinger...and I can deal with a serious relationships...it's just that she tries to get me to conform to the classic male type, meaning she constantly tries to get me to put more stringent boundaries on her...which I don't believe in...

Um, what kind of boundaries are we talking about here? Does she just want to know you'll get jealous if she talks to other guys at the bar?

Well to me it sounds like she cannot handle a serious relationship. It sounds like she's very insecure, low self esteem. She'll probably get through it.

Up here I'm the one making the big $$$ while my hubby is the house wife. Naaah, but I do make more money than he does. So we're equals in most things we do. If I want to do something he supports me and of course points out the usual 1,000 flaws in my planning. Now I've got one girl and one little boy as well and let's just say they'll both get the same opportunities to become whatever they want, as long as they attend college that is. lol
