Why do so many people in the U.S. consider this a bad day? Is it just in the U.S.? What is it's origins? '

Just for the record...I have never had a bad day on Friday the 13th. It is just another day...like them all. If I fool my mind into thinking something bad will happen, then my perception of the world changes to expect something bad...and when something does happen, that would have happened anyway...my mind would perceive that to be caused by an "unlucky day".

But it wasn't. So...waz up?

Well, the 13 is "unlucky" by itself. I have heard that it is because it was the number of people at the Last Supper. But I don't know the truth of that. But it is probably related to 13 itself.

The number 13 is considered a Witches number, hence the innacurate association with supernatural and bad luck. There are 13 months in a Witches year(using the lunar calendar) for example.

I dunno when Friday the 13th became an established superstition though.

About the number 13... I once sat on an airplane in row 12, and I looked at the next row and it was row 14. What's the point of that? It's still row 13, even though you changed the number...

Thanks guys!

About the airplane thing...I have also heard that some buildings do not have a 13th floor. It is because scared, supersticious people do not want to sit in them, or reside on that floor.

That's true. My great aunt and uncle got a really reduced price on a beach unit because it's on the 13th floor

My Friday the 13th was sort of on edge yesterday, but everything turned out well in the end .

I found an interesting link with some explanations of why Friday the 13th, or the number 13 in general, is regarded superstitiously:

http://urbanlegends.about.com/cs/his...y_the_13th.htm

At the bottom of the page you can continue to the next page. There seems to be many different histories from many different cultures.

Always the one with the balanced view, most people just bowl in and veer off course, not you though mate.
