Both. I've got 4 PC's, 2 with Pro, 2 with Home. The only difference between Home and Pro is the added network and security features.
XP is built on the NT kernel, much like Win 2000, or Advanced Server. I'm not saying it won't crash, but it shouldn't. The majority of crashes I've seen are hardware related, whether outdated drivers or a failing component. The bottom line, if your PC is configured correctly, and maintained regularly with anti virus and spywhere removal, XP will give you years of trouble free service

By the way, if your PC is giving you the corrup registry error or corrupted hive error on reboot after a crash, there is a way to fix that so you can get back into the OS to get your data. Win XP keeps a fully protected, clean copy of the registry in a back up location, so you can always rebuild your registry to get you back into Windows.

You are using a hard drive that supports UDMA, which in turn requires an 80pin connector versus the older 40pin. You may have a 40pin connector on your UDMA drive, or you may have a bad cable, or bad connection. Try reseating the IDE cable, or replacing with a known good 80pin.
