Good analogy!

I've been cutting back more and more the past couple of years. I developed an unhealthy drinking habit during my seperation/divorce when I was stationed in Korea in late '94. The heavy drinking didn't taper off until almost '98. I was still a moderate drinker up until this past year. Now I stay away except on weekends and even then keep it sane. I got tired of being overweight and alchohol contributes a fair amount of calories to ones diet. There's also too many things for me to do to waste time being intoxicated.

In my opinion, problem drinking is far more prevalent than alchoholism. Much like smoking, it's an unhealthy crutch to deal with life stresses. Here's a simple test to determine if you have an unhealthy interest in drinking alchohol. Go for six weeks without having any alchoholic beverages. If you're at a pub, drink only non-alchoholic beer. If it drives you crazy and you can't do it, if you feel restless and have trouble sleeping, or if you're bored stiff unless you're drinking, then you know you have a problem. You may need help to kick the habit. The length of time you can go without is a good indicator of the seriousness of the problem. If you can't go even a week, you probably have a fairly serious problem.

I gave up alchohol about a dozen years ago, when I couldn't remember how I drove home from a bar, backed into the garage and parked perfectly. I then proceeded to fall asleep with my face on a plate, before wife could serve me dinner!

I knew it was time to quit.

LOL! OMG! You actually reminded me of a time (about 12 years ago as a matter of fact! I wonder if it was the same night?!) when I discovered that wine coolers didn't have the burning effect that alcohol normally has on my damaged kidney and I proceeded to get completely schnookered at a bar across town.
I remember leaving!
About forty miles away from the bar, I kind of "came to" in front of my front door with the house key in my hand. I looked back and then walked back to make sure I was seeing what I was seeing out in the parking lot....my truck...in its parking space...positioned perfectly between the lines....windows rolled up and locked up tight.
You're right, incidents like those are definitely wake-up calls!
Also, I woke up so sick the next day, if I never drink again, it won't hurt me a bit!

LOL Moni!

I always thought we had a special connection! I had no idea it was alchohol induced!

I just have to meet you in person someday!

Hugs!!!

I don't drink any alcohol. And people call me weird because i'm the only male in the town who don't drink alcoholic stuff.
