hehehe yeah you are right you get to start driving at 16 and smoke at 18 (in most states) ...buit on further thought if we wanted to be a bit more consistant in our views as a society..I think driving, smoking, drinking, military service and voting should be withheld untill 21 I mean why is it ok for a kid to be drafted at 18 to give his life for his country but then tell him he isnt old enough to have a beer?

Of course that being said, Im sure that many parents would object to having to raise their minor children to the age of 21 before being allowed to give them the boot

IMHO at 18 you become mature and you get to drive and be drafted
And drinking age of 16 is good aswell
I haven;t seen trouble with alcohol in my direct surroundings

I think adult responsibilities and priveledges should be given at the same time. I also think a good age for this is 21. Being somewhat vital, driving priviledges should stay in the 16-18 range. Parents should teach their kids well before letting them drive solo and restrict driving for social activities until an acceptable level of responsibility is attained.

This little bit-o-tid is highly debatable
I think maturity is reletive and I frequently see/hear/read someone claiming maturity or saying how mature they are...I think these self assessments are often ummm....very skewed and biased at best

Oh I agree I think learners permits for driving at 16 are fine...as long as a licensed adult of 21 is in the car with the person. By prohibiting minors from driving alone or with loads of other minors in the car (such as highschool students) we wouldcut our auto accident rate by at least 30% and it would cut accidental teenage deaths by nearly 50%. I just dont think kids need to be out driving around on their own at that age..too many of them are too irresponsible and arrogant for the priveledge. (yes I know some of you teens are not irresponsible and arrogant)

I think another side benefit of raising the legal age of maturity to 21 is that I think more children would go to college. (or get really bored at home after highschool)

Again I stress that this would seriously cramp some parents style

I don't think that most people are mature enough that they should even be allowed to drink alcohol before the age of 20-21, in my drinking, driving and getting drafted shouldn't be till 20-21 years of age.
