He's a bad dude, go get him! (teeny spoiler)......

But you don't have to kill him. He'll surrender so if you're feeling virtuous you can let him go

Yeah, depends if you are an evil or good character, you don't have to kill him to do the quest, so up to you

I guess it's up to you to decide if being miserly is a crime worthy of capital punishment.

You can either kill him, let him go, or make him give you the tooth and then let him go. You can also 'ask' him for some money.

I've killed him with good characters. He kept part of a cure that will save thousands of lives. That seems pretty evil to me. If you're lawful, I would let him live.

One time I really did kill him by accident. He surrendered just as I was letting loose a magic missile spell, and down he went...

I killed him as well, with my neutral good priest.
AndyG got a point, sides that, if you bring the silver tooth to the woman, she'll offer you a reward, you can turn it down and get some reputation points with it (I'm called benefactor )

Yes, but! If you don't kill him he has a chance to redeem himself. My chaotic good ranger worked on the premise that his near death experience with Julilla the Mighty would scare him into becoming a prize citizen in the future. And if not, I could always come and finish him off later . And I did loot his whole house so that would set back any further evil plans he might have. Plus that Formosa was a shrew. Couldn't have her get it all her own way

One final note

if you read his jounal, you see that he initially 'regrets' having to hurt the dryad in order to get the cure - later he's unable to hurt or release her do to her enchantment.

My LN fighter let him live - but took the key to the storehouse.
