I just got this on my operating system, on the advice of a friendly (or not so, as I am beginning to suspect), and I was wondering what y'all thought of it.
If anyone knows any of the reasons ME has been branded "Crap", I would be most appreciative.
I am not looking forward to the information that I should have got 2000, but if I have to hear, I want to hear it.

Thanks in advance,

I upgraded to ME when it first came out and I have not had any problems with it. In fact, I have less crashes and problems than I did have with WIN98. I love it.

My new PC is coming with this, and SO MANY people have said that it's the worst piece of sh!ite they've ever seen. It can't be that bad, right?? I'm curious to hear from people as well. Is it because you all didn't configure it properly?

Here's some useful info from CNET about Windows ME.

Thanks a lot for the link...
all of my friends have since told me that ME is a little dodgy, but I wanted to get a second, or even third opinion on the matter!
I haven't really used it enough to know how it is.

I just got a new computer, it is a Celeron 800, so it should adequately do the job (for at least 6 months ). I even got a snazzy G-force2.
Have you got yours yet Memnoch?

Sylent, I'll try to give you some elements from a professional point of view.

First, ME was not a long time planned OS. Originally, MS wanted to merge the 'professional' OS line (WNT) and the 'personal' OS line (W95, W98) into a unique OS line, and that was the W2000 project. Then again, this OS was to be released in 2000 ! They couldn't manage it, so they ultimately made a series of hasty modifications to W98, re-packaged it into WME, and here we go.

Then, again, ME was supposed to come out somewhen before the Millenium, during the 2000 year, and so it did. Not fully ready, but it did. Probably the commercial guys rushed the techies so that WME would come out before MS got ridiculous by releasing a 'millenium' thing in 2001. As a former techie, I know what that means ...

What concerns me more is that WME has been released for more than a year now, and MS still has not released any patch (or 'service pack', as they call it). To me, this means that they don't really intend to maintain WME. They have given all their attention to W2000, and for all I have heard so far, W2000 seems to be a great OS. Powerful, stable, fast. But mainly aimed towards professional users and networks, because it requires a powerful configuration.

So, WME so far is a kind of lightly modified W98 with bugs. As a professional computer engineer, I try to NEVER use the 1.0 revision of any software ! By using WME, this is exactly what you would do. As I see it, either you have a top-of-the fashion comp and can go for W2000, or you really should step back to good old reliable W98.

IMHO.

Well, its a pity I have already bought it...
I might have to get a friend of mine who lives on a pirate ship to help me, or maybe not.
The bastards are so expensive. I am getting office setup, and its going to be about $500 aus, with a student concession.

I'm getting my PC next week. I'm also going to give Windows ME a go - I don't have much of a choice, and because I have a P4 it's not a viable option for me to go back to Win98. I'll be upgrading to WinXP later this year anyway if the performance with WinME is unsatisfactory.

Sylent, let me know how you go!
