It was a shame when it came to a close. I bookmarked it so I could go back and look at old waste time and again. Such a disappointment when a REAL thread turned up
And it's a nervous twitch, don't laugh

It actually stand for Specially Processed American Meat, or that is what I've heard. I looked on snopes, and they don't naysay it. The guy on that link doesn't even get it right.

In addition to the excellent link from Willow's post.
SPAM is short for spiced ham and is a product of Hormel meat IIRC - just check company's statement considering the use of their product name We do not object to use of this slang term to describe UCE, although we do object to the use of our product image in association with that term. Also, if the term is to be used, it should be used in all lower-case letters to distinguish it from our trademark SPAM, which should be used with all uppercase letters. This slang term does not affect the strength of our trademark SPAM. In a Federal District Court case involving the famous trademark STAR WARS owned by LucasFilms, the Court ruled that the slang term used to refer to the Strategic Defense Initiative did not weaken the trademark and the Court refused to stop its use as a slang term. Other examples of famous trademarks having a different slang meaning include MICKEY MOUSE, to describe something as unsophisticated; TEFLON, used to describe President Reagan; and CADILLAC, used to denote something as being high quality.

My quest for the origin of took me to the ends of the world where in deepest Patagonia in a small village called Kaltia, I stumbled upon an evil cult of cloud worshiping pagans. On studying the high priestess of spams artefacts I noticed some important ingredients. Beer of Johnny, with a touch of Attalus weather. On the alter was placed a grim looking willow stick, who knows what evil was perpetuated with such an object. Fearing for my life I left, melting into the shadows and focused on getting back to civilisation and letting the world know about this cult. Maybe there are other brave Ironworkers out there who can shed more light on this cult?
