Hmm Aelia, I've only just started learning Latex, so can't be much help. Latex is used mostly by professionals, people who publish research papers etc. so I don't think you'll find too many of those here. I'll ask my dad though, he's written all 9 of his books in Latex.

For the uninitiated: try writing a long piece of work with Word and see how annoying it gets when it comes to renaming multiple figures after inserting one in the middle or manually formatting every page, or manually creating a references index

Aelia: I think you have to edit the .sty file for your document to change the caption justification.
