look, it is impossible to move out the army once they are there.

how would US explain to his allies?

people DON'T just sit and die. if aid is not coming in soon, SOMETHING will happen

it is either they band together as a nation or they overthrow Taliban government or the combination of the two. I am open see to other options, and I see none with my limitd sightness here.

it is more likely Taliban will submit, or Taliban will be overthrown

just wait, people. it is painful to see all those men die, but they will have to make that choice

have faith

Wow, the pigs truly are flying - I think I agree with something you said Moridin! I will just read it a few more times to make sure!

IMHO a lot of the problems in the region at the moment are the result of 'tinkering' in the politics and governments of the region by the 'western powers' and for the US to actively support any oppositional factions would likely result in a 'Taliban II' - supported by the US initially, then a few years down the line becoming an enemy again. (ie. Madeleine Albright openly praised and verbally supported the Taliban for years, then retracted in '97 when they then became the new enemy - this is a situation best avoided.)

The people of Afghanistan on the whole hate the Taliban, and given humanitarian support, rather than military intervention, would likely be able to deal with the situation themselves once they have regained their health and energy. So drop food parcels and medicines!

Just saw the weather forecast, hell is expected to freeze over tonight

I totally agree on the non-support of another alliance. I do not want to be sitting here 10 years from now saying "If the US wouldn't have supplied arms to the Nothern Alliance, then we wouldn't have had that nuclear bomb strike at Disney World"
Just makes no sense to arm a potential opponent, when you can take care of the situation yourself.

Northern Alliance:
A loosely linked alliance of ethnic groups including Tajiks and Uzbeks, and some religious dissenters, such as Shiite Muslims. A variety of groups forged the alliance after being defeated by the Taliban, whose members are mostly of the Pashtun ethnic group.
Estimated at 12,000-15,000 fighters, several dozen tanks and a few helicopters and cargo planes.

People are afraid of them returning to power. Between 1992-1995 fighting amound the factions of the alliance reduced a third of Kabul to rubble and killed more than 50,000 civilians.
I feel that to deter ex-warlords from stealing the process, the United Nations should establish a war crimes tribunal and put high level pressure on all to keep neiboring countrys from interfering to much. If the Taliban disperses(when, mybe is a better word)who will step up to fill this void? Who will decide Moridin? US..? I think that it must come within myself but who will step up?

The Northern Alliance are supported by (amongst others) India. Imagine Pakistan's reaction to having India on one side and an Afghanistan ruled by a pro-indian government on the other. The region would become even less stable.

Russia has apparently informed the Northern Alliance of hidden weapons dumps left behind by the Russian Army when they pulled out.
